Victoria, Gozo's capital

photo: Bustling streets of Victoria

Victoria (also called Rabat) is the capital of Gozo and the main hub for tourists and locals. The city is dominated by the Citadel. From the fortifications there is a superb panoramic view of Victoria and the surrounding areas. Other places of interest in Victoria include St. George's Basilica and Victoria's old town.

Victoria is also the location of the main bus terminal where buses can be caught to most of the sights on the small island. Tourist information is in a shopping centre a short walk from the bus station where public toilets can also be found.

Victoria is perhaps the best place to visit first when you arrive on Gozo. You can plan your trip around the island from here. A scheduled bus service to Victoria collects ferry passengers from Mgarr although in summer it can get very crowded. A taxi is a quick option to get to Victoria centre and won't cost the earth.
