Sandy beaches in Malta

photo: The beach at Golden Bay

Malta is not particularly well endowed with sandy beaches so it's worth taking the time to find out where they are before you travel to save time and hassle.

Most sandy beaches are on the northern coast of Malta. Perhaps the cutest of these is the beach at Golden Bay where the beach sits in a natural inlet. Adjacent to Golden Bay is Ghajn Tuffieha which remains unspoilt by the tourist invasion.  Nearby Paradise Bay in Cirkewwa has a delightful tiny beach that's good for snorkelling.

The largest beach on Malta is at Mellieha Bay where space is plentiful along the almost mile long seafront. There are water sport activities here as well as snack bars and beach gear for hire. Across  the larger Mellieha area there are several tiny hidden coves with small sandy beaches.

Pretty Bay and St. Georges Bay in Birzebbugia have sandy beaches that are ideal for children.
