Restaurants and eateries in Malta

photo: Caffe Cordina and Eddie's Cafe in Valletta

As you would expect with any area devoted to tourism, there are a whole host of restaurants and eateries in Malta offering the usual mix of tourist 'delights'. Plenty of the usual Chinese restaurants, Italian, Indian, junk food - you name it, it's here and you can find it almost everywhere.

The place with the highest density of restaurants is the St. Julians area, with its cool restaurants and trendy bistros, including Hugo's lounge - The first conveyor belt sushi and noodle bar in Malta.

When visiting Malta don't shy away from the local delicacies. Maltese cuisine is an eclectic mix of Mediterranean, Italian/Sicilian and Arab tastes with an onus very much on fresh fruit, vegetables and seafood. Maltese pastries can be picked up from street vendors and little bakeries cheaply. They're full of flavour but will do your waistline no favours.
