Bus station in Victoria, Gozo

photo: A passenger waits forlornly for a bus on Gozo

The bus station in central Victoria on Gozo Island is a great place to go if you like long waits in blistering heat. The bus service on Gozo is no match for the service on Malta island. Gozo buses are not especially reliable, do not run to most of the island when you want them to and the timetable serves only to get your hopes up rather than telling you when buses will arrive.

At least the Victoria bus station is easy to find, being central to the city and close to the tourist information (which is curiously hidden away in a shopping centre). There is a taxi rank nearby where reasonably priced taxi trips can be taken all over the island. Taxi drivers will often offer to take you on a full trip around the Gozo sights of interest - a good option on Gozo because of the pitiful buses. Just make sure you set the price in advance, only use official taxis and bargain hard on the price.
