Anchor Bay, Malta tourist information

photo: Cliffs at Anchor Bay

Anchor Bay - so called because of the huge anchor at the far side of the bay - was just another cute and untouched bay until 1979 when Popeye Village (or Sweethaven Village as it is also known) was created for the film 'Popeye the movie'.

Today the bay is a popular spot for divers with abundant marine life and a huge cave to explore. It's an easy bay to dive in, with shallow water, although swimming in the bay should be left to the strong and experienced swimmer.

Anchor Bay is also a spot where you can find the odd fisherman casting out from the rocks.
